offer full inhouse design services based on Pro-Engineer
and AutoCAD and have over 24 years experience
working with Solid Models. Equipped with a large
spacious dedicated design studio which is fully
networked to all other departments, we are able
to work with all drawing formats including paper,
2D and 3D files as well as working from existing
parts.
Project
Development
Working
closely with our customers in the early phases
of a project we can often reduce component costs
by
optimising the design for CNC manufacture, advising
on material strength requirements and highlighting
potential issues that might arise further down
the line such as requirements for jigging fixtures
and finishing.
Design
For Manufacture
When
involved with our customers at the design stage
we are able to advise on best practice low cost
design for manufacture.

reduce machining costs, but also to reduce the
lead times, risk of material wastage from tool

Solid
Models
We
have over 24 years experience working with solid
models. We accept minimal drawings as STEP(203),
Parasolids and IGES files although STEP(203)
is the preferred format. For further details

Expertise
R E Thompson have particular expertise within the aerospace,
defence, electronics and optics sectors including the design
of electronic enclosures, thermal management systems, weight
reduced panels and bonded components.
Production
Engineering
Using
our state of the art 3D design systems we are able to model
components visually, simulate machining cycles and times
and generate accurate bills of materials and finishing
costs.
Rapid
Prototyping
R
E Thompson carry out rapid prototyping of machined
parts based on most drawing formats in a range
of materials including plastics and have a full
compliment of experienced staff to support research
and development programmes. When supplied with
solid models we are able to programme directly
from customer data onto our CNC machines as a
basis for rapid prototyping and paperless manufacture.
