Environmental
Statement
R E Thompson recognises the importance of environmental awareness and
is committed to operating in a conscientious and responsible manner within
the requirements of all environmental regulations, legislation and codes
of practice.
Recycling
All metal waste is recycled, a practice driven both by common sense economics
as well as an effort to minimise waste to landfill. Further, as part
of our KPI we monitor scrap wastage and deal with issues responsible
for scrap such as tool breakage or faulty machinery. We also run
a paperless office which reduces paper waste significantly.
WEEE & RoHS
Compliance
We are compliant with the requirements of the RoHS & WEEE European
Union Directive 2002/95/EC in that none of the flat steel products and
their coatings that we use contain either Polybrominated bipnenyls (PBB)
or Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE). Where metal finishing is required
we look for service providers that offer alternatives to treatments that
utilise lead or hexavalent chromium based compounds where required.
Wastewater & Solvents
All cutting fluids are used in closed loop systems and when replaced
are disposed of through suitably licensed waste carriers. No harmful
solvents are used within the factory, and those degreasing agents
that are used are water based and disposed of in a suitable fashion.
Energy
As an energy intense company we pay particular attention to energy efficiency
from heating and lighting use through to machine and plant power consumption.
Noise
As a company with few noise issues we have identified and addressed what noise
issues we have, primarily through machine use and are content that the environmental
impact of our noise output is minimal. Regarding health & safety, all
employees are fully aware of noise implications and have a range of ear protection
equipment at their disposal.
Third
Parties
We follow our commitment to the environment through to our third
party suppliers and sub-contractors and look favourably to companies
that demonstrate
sound environmental management. This is particularly important with
regards to metal finishers, material suppliers and waste carriers.
Environmental
Objectives
Through the execution of this policy, management is committed to continuous
improvement in environmental performance and to support this objective
the company will:
• Actively work to minimise wastage of energy and materials.

and renewable materials within our organisation.
