E Thompson was established in 1948 by Reginald Edward Thompson
and his son Frank Edward Thompson in Teddington and Mortlake,
primarily for machining component parts for the rail industry
such as track indicators.
1952
From
1952 the company diversified into naval work for the Admiralty
which carried on through to the mid 1970's.
1968
The first NC milling machine was purchased in 1968.
1970
In
1970 the company developed its vacuum side of the business
which involved the design and supply of leak test equipment
for the oil & gas industry. (This part of the business was
sold in 1982). The first computer was purchased in 1979
which
had
429k of memory
and
cost
£20,000.
From the mid 1970's onwards
1976
R
E Thompson started working for the aerospace & defence
industries.
1979
The
first computer was purchased which had 429k of memory
and cost £20,000.
1980
R E Thompson invested in their first CNC machining centres
purchasing a 3 axis mill.
1990
First
solid model package installed allowing paperless manufacture
and direct to machine programming.
